Whose Opinion Counts?

I’ve talked so much about her. My best friend, Tracy, is guest blogging on Lyn Cowell’s website today! Lyn is a speaker and writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries.

The article is all about our image as women, wives, mommies & daughters of the Lord. She’s giving a healthy reminder of how to look at ourselves and the connections it has with our husbands and kiddos. Go over to Lyn’s blog and read Tracy’s post. Write a comment and you’ll be entered to win her amazing bible study book!

Tracy also writes on her own site at: http://onedegreeministries.com/blog/

The Party

It was amazing! Completely last-minute. William & I were both thinking of it, then finally said something to one another and we were so excited to plan and prep! We were giddy with anticipation. To celebrate what the Lord has given us. My husband. My son’s father. Living life together. I’m so thankful.

We were truly overwhelmed by how many of our wonderful friends and family popped by to give us hug, celebrate with us and have a margarita! It really is a humbling response to look around and realize how many people love and support us. As we hope to do for them. Of course, during the illness it was the same wonderfully, overwhelming response. The huge amount of support that came around us. But, this weekend, it was in celebration. Not grief. Praise be to God!

Thank for rejoicing with us! It’s easy to move on with life and forget how amazing our God really is. How he showed Himself in a very dynamic way last summer. His healing, restoration, answered prayers, support, grace and love. So, thanks for stopping for a moment to celebrate His glory!

A friend, Cathy, shared an announcement with the group. She heard the song titled What a Difference a Day Makes. She mentioned, on 5/4/11, we were unsure of William’s survival. A day later he wakes and after hearing nurse Tara say it’s 5/5/11, he proceeds to say “It’s Cinco de Mayo” and asks for a margarita. Cathy pointed out what he said showed right then and there, not only was God giving him back to us, his brain was active and working! I never thought of it that way. What a difference a day makes.

To all who couldn’t be there, you were missed! And, to my best friend, on the verge of tears because she couldn’t be here … Take a look. You were there for it all!!!

From near and far

I love when we get to catch up with friends & family who live far away! Recently friends of ours, Alexis & Shane, got married and our sweet, lovable friends, Blake & Katelin came into town for the wedding! YEAH!

Here’s my handsome husband & I dressed up for the wedding reception! They had a private ceremony a few weeks earlier and a backyard reception that was drizzled with love and personal sentiment! I loved it!!!

I must explain this picture … goofiness, included. I set the camera to a timer and forgot to tell everyone that it was going to take 10 at a time. One’s bound to turn out of all of us, I figured! As the camera kept snapping, everyone got more relaxed and started laughing. My favorite pictures are totally candid and usually when someone is laughing! I love the *joy* that is in someone’s face and body when they’re laughing!

And, for another sweet surprise. My cousin, Danny, came into town. He’s holding Trevie looking so affectionatley at him. I adore Danny. Always have. He’s got a heart of gold and reminds me of my brother, Chris, in that way. He always makes me laugh and is so darn handsome!

Top right, my cousin, Elias also came to town and I haven’t seen him since I was about 14.

Thank you everybody for visiting with us! We’re honored to know you and the 4 Simmons’ had a blast seeing you again!

Pendants with a Purpose

So, all of our posts have been about what’s going on with our family, medically. Just to take a break today and hoping to reach a broader range of people, I thought I’d share with you, yet another miracle God’s done recently. Brag about God a little?? Why not?!

Recently, friends, Cate & Sean, adopted the cutest little boy. (He’s the kind of cute that you want to smother in kisses all day!) Increasing their family from 3 girls to 3 girls + 1 boy. I can only imagine how much fun they’re having and how much fun they will have as they grow up together! God showed up in such a huge way and I only saw a little picture of this bigger story. I saw my own heart melt as I listened to Cate share with me details of their adoption process. I felt the Lord wake me in the middle of the night to pray feverently for their family. I begged God to give them the sweetest dropping from heaven; their son. Of course, God showed up. He made it known that he gave them such a beautiful gift. After all, He is the giver of all good gifts!

Something they were able to do with raising funds for their adoption was to sell the most beautiful necklaces. God met their needs financially and they still have necklaces left over!

Here’s the connection …

They’re going to continue to sell these and donate all of the funds to other friends of ours, Bruce & Kim, who are also beginning the adoption process. I think this is so much fun!! And what a great gift they make. We go to Old Town Bible Church with Bruce, Kim, & their 4 sweet children. We adore this family and love watching how they are raising their children in a Christ centered home. They’ve been a wonderful example to us as we’ve been raising Carter. (side note: this is the family who took care of our crazy, wild, spirited dog for 8 days while we were in the hospital!)

These families are accumulated of rock solid – down to earth – good people…that combination does not come around too often! So, if you’ve got friends that meet those descriptions; nurture those friendships! They’re are really rare.

Buy a necklace and know your money went to bring home a sweet child into a loving family.

Adopted. Just like us; children of Christ. He adopted us.

Amy’s Party

Amy + Friends

I was thrilled to throw a party for my friend, Amy. We’ve known them for almost two years now and the friendship between the four of us (six, really…but two had no say inthe matter), just clicked! Thank you Jesus, for my friends. So many of my friends have meant the world to me and touched my heart through their loving kindness. And, she is defanitley one of them!

So, moving on to the party. This was a celebration for her second baby. Immediatley, I fell in love with the theme “You Are My Sunshine.” Then, I kept asking the Lord to show me what would bless her and be meaningful to her. I dove right in to the teeny tiny details and remembered, love is in the details. I had a blast preparing for this!

I’m not a game person during showers. I’ve yet to have been forced to play a game at a shower that was actually enjoyable. Mainly because, I’d rather spend that time talking to everyone. So, back to the prayer…what would bless Amy? Getting ready to have a home of two little girls, it dawned on me, what else other than having our friends who have two girls to offer some wisdom, pieces of advice. Ending with a sweet message her husband to her as an encouragement. It all went P-E-R-F-E-C-T! The women who spoke were totally spot on!

I’m so happy with the way everything turned out. Some of the details…

I love my Keurig

Well Wishing Station

Dessert Table

My favorite things to have for parties:

  • Keurig  Coffee Maker – everyone loved making their own cup!
  • Labels for everything food & drink. Coordinating with theme/colors.
  • Straw Flags. This was one of my favorite things. Since it was intimate (under 20), I was able to use our wine glasses and personalize with each ladies name on her straw flag. Fun!
  • MadLucy Paper was super helpful with the “You Are My Sunshine” banner.

Every lady received a prayer card to go home with and of course, a dessert bag to go! You didn’t think I wanted all those leftovers, did you?!
